Port of Oakland Grows Agricultural Export Business

Top News / January 7, 2022

Due to record profits and high shipping costs for shippers, the Port of Oakland has experienced a loss in business in recent months. To bring back business the Port of Oakland has committed to expanding facilities to grow their agricultural export business.

Until permanent facilities can be established Oakland will use a 25-acre, off-terminal container yard which will allow for the speedy transfer of container from truck chassis to other locations or shipment overseas. With cooperation from federal and state agencies, the Port of Oakland will encourage exporters to use this site to bring back their agricultural export business.

Oakland provides a strategic location for many ag exporters, by making the port more more efficient for them and the shippers, the much desired business will hopefully soon return.
